Glue API Staging Access

Note: As of this writing, below applies to the member of ADN (Autodesk Developer Network) who has requested the Glue staging access for their development purpose.

For the purpose of Glue API Development, we are using the staging server. To Access BIM 360 Glue staging for the first time, you will need the following two things:

  • Autodesk Account staging environment
  • Invitation e-mail from the Autodesk BIM 360 Glue staging

The Glue will use the e-mail address to identify the user.

1  Autodesk Account – Staging

Autodesk account (also known as “single sign in”) enables you to use the same user ID and password to access multiple Autodesk websites. If you already have Autodesk account on staging, you are set. If not, please visit your staging account server and create one. (Please check your e-mail for the name of the server):
https://{your_accounts_staging}.autodesk.com/

(Note: the production version will be https://accounts.autodesk.com/  )

If you are not sure what your Autodesk ID and password are to log in to Glue staging, you can check at this site.

2  Invitation e-mail from the BIM 360 Glue staging

You will receive an invitation e-mail from the BIM 360 Glue, which looks like below:

GlueInvitationEmail

Important:

  • Please make sure you click on the “Get Started” link in the e-mail. The link contains special id that is required when you first access to the site to activate.

Trouble Shooting

If you experience accessing the site for the first time, please check the following:

  1. Go to the https://{your_accounts_staging}.autodesk.com/ and verify your Autodesk account is correct.
  2. Make sure you click the link “Get Started” on the invitation e-mail (see the figure 1 above). Sometimes verifying your account for the first time may take longer.
  3. If the installation of Glue desktop does not start automatically, or if you need to reinstall, you can get it from https://{your_b4_staging}.autodesk.com/desktop/. The production version is: https://b4.autodesk.com/desktop/

Additional Notes

The staging environment we are providing currently is not exactly the same as production environment and it limits to certain functionalities.

  • Staging account – staging account is separate from the Autodesk Account you use with the production.  You will need to set up one for staging.  (Sorry for repeating this. But this is the most common confusion we hear.)
  • No iPad app – No iPad app for staging.  If this is an issue with what you are trying to develop, let us know.
  • No Add-ins – no add-ins for desktop products. You can upload files by drag and drop in the UI. If you are using Revit file, you can export it to either dwf or nwc first, then upload.  (It used to be that adjusting the config file under Glue add-in install made it work. But not any longer.) If there is a good reason that the above workaround is not enough for your development purpose, please let us know.
  • Sharing the host – We are sharing the host. Some of ADN team is assigned as host admin. The model you upload will be visible to us (although we don’t include ourselves as a project member unless it is requested by the developer to take a look for troubleshooting purpose). So be aware not to use any confidential models. Also, with the way Glue works, user rosters information is also visible through the API. If you don’t like this, you may choose to use dummy user.
  • No account admin right – You will have only one project.  You will be a project admin, but not as an account admin.
  • No viewer support – the display component or the viewer is no longer supported.
  • Sample models – the test project will be an emply one. If you want to have a sample model, you may use ones posted here.
